Furthergate Business Park

| Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council (BwDBC) have managed a programme of local improvements in Furthergate & Greenbank business areas as well as Whitebirk Industrial Estate since 2002. Through established business forums and consultations common issues have been identified and a number of projects to improve property, transport and security have been undertaken. Businesses have raised concerns about security, criminal activity and estate cleanliness and so the Blackburn Economic Development Zone (EDZ) Business Improvement District (BID) has been developed to tackle these issues. |

Through a partnership of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council's Regeneration, Housing & Neighbourhoods Department and Lancashire Constabulary, a comprehensive security camera proposal has been developed for Blackburn EDZ. |
The scheme will operate for 5 years from 2007 to 2012. It will utilise the latest technology covering vehicular access to the EDZ with closed circuit television (CCTV) and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. They will be monitored ‘live’ in the Police Communications Centre, providing an additional level of security for businesses with the objectives of reducing crime, fly tipping, arson and anti-social behaviour. |
| The initiative will be funded through the introduction of a Business Improvement District (BID), a mechanism for collecting the revenue needed through a self imposed business levy. |
